The Death of King Hamlet

iii) Claudius

Many individuals such as Polonius, feel as though Hamlet has gone mad thanks to the seduction; as well as the love he has for Ophelia. However, I believe there is a different side to this story, there is a bigger picture that no one else happens to see; I will be the one who figures it out. The problem is not love although for some reason he is trying to persuade everyone that it is, Hamlet is not really mad; he's hiding something. If this act of disruption is not thanks to Ophelia, nor my marriage, perhaps it is thanks to the death of his father. If the death of King Hamlet is the reason for this madness, why is it that Hamlet still mourns when it has been a month since his passing, "How is it that the clouds still hang on you?" Everyone must pass and it is about time Hamlet realizes that, "You must know, your father lost a father, That father lost, lost his."

  1. Nice insight and you incorporated the quotes very fluidly and nicely!

  2. You ask a good question, but I think it's still reasonable for Hamlet to still be mourning one or two months after the loss of his father. I agree though that Claudius' advice regarding Hamlet, at least in 1.2, seems fair as well. Good start!
